Tsavorit – a gemstone from Africa

 The history of tsavorite

Tsavorite is one of three precious minerals (plus tanzanites and Paraiba tourmalines) discovered in the second half of the 20th century.

His story is like a detective story:

The first bright green, emerald-like stones were found in 1967 in Tanzania by Kenyan gemologist of Scottish origin Campbell bridge.
However, it was forbidden to export gems from there. Unlike neighboring Kenya. Here, in the Tsavo national Park, there were also sparkling stones. The Park went down in the history of jewelry art along with the mineral. It was dubbed tsavorit, which is as close to the local sound as possible.
Campbell bridge and Tiffany jewelry house are considered the godparents of the stone. It was the gemologist who charmed the company's representatives with the gem. That meeting was fateful: after some seven years, the Tiffany brand made him a favorite. And the owner of the company, Henry Platt, came up with a name for the stone.
Africans claim that the stone has the property of "hiding" from people. Therefore, it is not a fact that it can be seen a second time in the same place.

Prices for tsavorite products

The average cost of an engagement ring with tsavorites is in the range of 200-2000 dollars. Large stones are very rare, and for this reason their price is very high – from 20,000 to 30,000 dollars. The most popular engagement rings today are tsavorites, set in white gold, which look very impressive in daylight.
